Crystal D. Murphy is a Modern Day Abolitionist.  Her fate was sealed in late 2008 after viewing a film on Human Trafficking.  After becoming aware that this form of slavery still exists, she realized she must do something about it.  While reaching out to several organizations, she found her home with the Collaborative Initiative to end Human Trafficking and there she began her mission.  Under the direction of Sisters Karen Walsh, Ann Victory and Toby Lardie, Crystal received all the tools needed to educate the public that Slavery still exists.

Crystal has done several Human Trafficking presentations for youth who are at risk of being trafficked, and for adults who come in contact with high risk groups.  Her main goal has been to bring awareness that slavery is still here, and that we must take action to move toward prevention.  Crystal, along with the Collaborative Initiative were strong advocates for Senate Bill 235 and in November of 2010 that Bill, which criminalized Human Trafficking in the state of Ohio passed unanimously in the House of Representatives.  After speaking with Crystal, Councilmen Kevin Conwell introduced and passed Resolution 1587-10 in support of the Senate and House Bills that criminalize Human Trafficking in the state of Ohio.
With the help of another dedicated abolitionist Cecelia White-Carter,  Crystal’s next goal is to launch The Jade Rescue Project which will provide direct aid and court advocacy to child survivors of sex trafficking.   Girls between the ages of twelve and seven-teen are at major risk of being trafficked here in our state of Ohio.   We must protect our most precious assets, and that is our children

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Crystal is a graduate of Collinwood High School and strives to remain attentive to her community and its needs. She is also a foster parent providing a safe home for displaced youth. Crystal’s community service will not stop and she is determined to make a difference.
